2001 Ford Excursion
This year's Ford is a jumbo sized SUV measuring nearly 19 feet long in XLT and
Limited models. All models have 44-gallon fuel tank. The heavy-duty Ford exceeds
the standard 8,500 lbs gross vehicle weight exempting it from federal emission
and fuel economy requirements. The vehicle can tow up to 10,000 pounds using V-10
diesel engine. Other available engines are 255-horsepower 5.4-liter V-8 for2WD
models, 310-hp 6.8-liter V-10 on 4WD and an optional 7.3-liter turbo diesel V-8
now rated at 250.

The vehicle has a standard 48 cubic feet cargo space behind the rear seats that
extends up to 146 cubic feet. In the later model power-adjustable brake pedals
and accelerator become optional. For 2001, fog lamps become a standard feature
on Limited together with mirrors that contain built-in turn signals. With the
vehicle's massive size and height, it is equipped with a Blocker beam found below
the front bumper and a standard trailer hitch at the rear to prevent small cars
from sliding beneath during collision. Its hugeness however is a burden in handling
the vehicle on twisting mountain road together with the fuel-thirsty fuel tank
that drains easily.
